December 26th What did you give him?

Ephesians 4:7-11

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Jesus is a giver. He gave us life and then gave his life for us. Once we are redeemed He gives us all spiritual gifts through the Holy Spirit which dwells within. These gifts are given so He can use us to accomplish his will and work on the earth. Verse 11 says he gives the gifts of people who can help us understand his word, will and work more clearly.

Given that He is such a great gift, and giver of gifts, doesn’t He deserve gifts? The wise men thought so. I challenged you a couple days ago to give Jesus a gift. Since He owns everything, including the saint (we were bought with a price I Corinthians 6:20) the gift must come from inside you, if he’s going to get one. The only thing He doesn’t own is your free will.

Maybe you gave him greater faithfulness? Maybe you gave a promise of greater dedication to Him, His Word, His House, and His will for your life? Maybe you gave up a habitual sin that He‘s been talking to you about? Maybe you promised to give up some sleep in order to spend more time with Him in His Word? Maybe you gave him a promise to walk a more victorious life since He has made you more than a conqueror? (Romans 8:31-37)

Maybe you promised to be a missionary in your area of influence? Maybe you gave Him a vocation: teacher, bus driver, church worker? Maybe you gave Him the promise of a prayer warrior?

Three things are for certain when you give Jesus a gift: He is worthy, He will appreciate it, and He will give you more. Did you forget Jesus this year? It’s never to late to give Jesus a Christmas gift!
