January 1st A Fresh Start

Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Ah, a brand new year. Many see it as an opportunity for a fresh start. They become determined that some things are gonna change. They resolve themselves to goals involving fitness, weight loss, and personal goals. Most of these resolutions do not make it past the middle of February before the old lifestyle takes over again. That’s mankind’s way.

I‘m so glad that’s not God’s way. Our God is the God of Fresh Starts! I think about the thousand of times HE has forgiven me and gave me a fresh start. I’ll never forget the day HE spoke to me and said ”you need that relationship with me the man just preached about”. I asked God to save me and I received my very first “Fresh Start” with God. All sin was gone.

I think about all those fresh starts in His Word. How Noah after the flood, Abraham in Canaan, Ruth in Bethlehem, lepers, lame, blind, and countless others must of felt when they received a fresh start from God. I think about mankind‘s greatest fresh start when Jesus came in flesh, lived a perfect life, died on a cross, and arose from the dead for us. Behold he made all things new! (Revelation 21:5)

God’s honest truth is every morning is a fresh start. January 1st is not the only new beginning. David asked God to make every morning a fresh start. David seems to say “When I awake let’s start the day together Lord and help me remember how loving and kind you are. Then let’s stick together all day and you show me where to walk and what to do. I will remember my soul is not my own but Yours.”

Lets approach each day as a fresh start with God in this coming year and watch God take us to new and greater blessings!
