January 23rd Living Our Purpose

Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

As we focus on “living our purpose“ in 2021, I can’t help but think about the greatest Christian example in the Bible besides Jesus - the Apostle Paul. Paul said I’m gonna forget what’s happened in the past (he couldn’t change it anyway) and I’m gonna press on to do the one thing Christ would have me do.

Paul has been in the ministry almost 30 years at this point. He’s suffered many things for the furtherance of the gospel (Philippians 1:11) and he doesn’t intend to slow down. He’s pressing on. He means to put every ounce of strength he can muster into continuing to spread the gospel. He’s gonna fulfill his purpose. He is determined. Everything else is worthless. (Philippians 3:8)

I like how Paul lives above his circumstances as a child of God. This short letter has 19 “joys“ and “rejoices” in it. One would never know he was chain to guard and in a prison cell when he writes about living with purpose. He had hope God was not finished with him. He was right. He’s not finished with us either.
