January 6th When We Feel Inadequate

Joshua 1:1-9 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass, that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying,

2 Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

3 Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

I preached from this passage Sunday, on this title, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” We See Joshua stepping into Moses leadership shoes to lead God’s people. What a daunting task. Maybe as you look into 2021 God is asking you to do something that you think is bigger than you are. That‘s probably how Joshua felt. God gave Joshua the keys to prospering and being successful. These same promises work for us as well.

Tread On. (Verses 3 & 4) God will not give us a goal or task He will not enable us to accomplish. In fact he said it’s a done deal. I’ve already given you every place you will set foot upon. Whatever He asks us to do get to it. Get moving! Elijah got all depressed and ended up on his back in a cave. God said in a still small voice “what are you doing here? Get up and get back to work. You don’t have time for a pity party. By the way, you’re not alone. I have 7000 who worship me, just like you.” (I Kings 19) Go, get to the work!

Trust God. (Verses 5-6) God said nobody can stop us. He will be with us every step of the way. We may not see him but trust His Presence. He’s not going to fail us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) Be Strong and courageous in the Lord and not ourselves. Our biggest issue is we normally try to trust in our ability and not our heavenly Father’s power. You will accomplish the goal if you stand in the power of His might. (Ephesians 6:10)

Take Up The Book. (Verses7-9) No Bible-no Success! You must observe and do all I say in my word. Turn not from the right or left. Stay on my path and you will prosper. You will have good success. (Only Place in the Bible that you will find the word success) Be a doer Of the Word and you win every time.
